Atlanta – Improper handling and storage of pool chemicals can harm workers, according to a study released Oct. 7 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Using data from 2002 to 2008 from six different states, researchers found that of 584 cases associated with pool chemicals, 40 percent were work related and 9 percent resulted in one or more days away from work.
Factors that contributed to worker injuries and illnesses included spills and splashes of liquid or dust, lack of appropriate personal protective equipment, and equipment failure, according to the report.
