Petaluma, CA – Long-time congresswoman and workplace safety advocate Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) announced June 27 that she would retire at the end of her current term and not run for re-election in 2012.
“I will turn 75 years old just before the next Election Day, and after two decades of service to this district, it will be time for me to move on,” Woolsey said in a statement released by her office.
In recent years, Woolsey has been pushing for a vast overhaul of the Occupational Safety and Health Act – including increased penalties and greater protection for whistleblowers – and has introduced the Protecting America’s Workers Act in the past three Congresses.
Woolsey is the ranking member of the Education and the Workforce Committee’s Workforce Protections Subcommittee, and served as the subcommittee’s chair the previous two terms when Democrats were in control of the House.
