OSHA to increase testing laboratory fees

Washington – OSHA on Feb. 25 issued a final rule that will increase fees for nationally recognized testing laboratories.

The rule will adjust the approach OSHA has taken in calculating NRTL fees, and that adjustment will increase fees to account for additional program-staff resources and federal employee salary adjustments.

The rule is scheduled to go into effect March 28. Any fee increase less than $200 will go into effect immediately. Fee increases of more than $200 for existing NRTLs and pending applications will be phased in during a three-year period.

NRTLs test and certify products from manufacturers to ensure they can be safely used in the workplace. OSHA ensures the laboratories are appropriately performing such tests and certifications.
