NIOSH studies mine safety

Washington – NIOSH recently released several documents related to mine safety.

A study released Jan. 31 examined (.pdf file) use of high-expansion firefighting foam to deliver water to remote areas of mine passageways during a fire.

Another study analyzed (.pdf file) the strength of fiber-reinforced shotcrete, which is used to provide ground support in weak rock mines to reduce injuries and fatalities from falls.

NIOSH also published a list (.pdf file) of coal mines that provide unique rescue training.
