After Sandy, stay safe

Hurricane Sandy left a trail of destruction along the East Coast, and it’s important for employers to ensure workers are staying safe during cleanup efforts.

With cleanup and repair estimates in the billions of dollars, many people will be working for days, weeks and months to repair the damage done by the storm. Here are some places on the web with tips and guidance on keeping a variety of workers safe during these efforts:

  • OSHA has two webpages with good information covering safety tips and employer responsibilities for both before and after flooding and hurricanes.
  • Over at “The Pump Handle” blog, Liz Borkowski offers a good roundup of NIOSH guidance for keeping emergency responders safe.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a variety of links with information for workers and volunteers.

The opinions expressed in “Washington Wire” do not necessarily reflect those of the National Safety Council or affiliated local Chapters.
