Washington – NIOSH has developed a mobile app to help miners assess the ergonomics of three mining tasks: bagging, maintenance and repair, and haul truck operations.

ErgoMine asks users question to determine ergonomics issues related to these tasks. Users can complete all or some of the modules for each audit. The app then makes recommendations for ergonomic improvements, which can be viewed on the device or emailed.

Researchers at NIOSH’s Pittsburgh Mining Research Division used studies, injury and fatality data, consensus standards, regulations and best practices to create the app’s audits and recommendations. NIOSH said the audits are intended for use by mine safety personnel and do not require ergonomics expertise.

The app is available for Android phone users.
