Sail into safety in San Diego

Sun, fun … and safety? You can count on it, with the National Safety Council 2019 Congress & Expo taking over the San Diego Convention Center from Sept. 6 to 12. The world’s largest annual event dedicated to workplace safety, Congress & Expo is your place to see the latest and greatest in product technologies and solutions, further your education by attending one of the more than 140 Technical Sessions or 25-plus Professional Development Seminars, and hear from safety experts and innovators during keynote addresses.

One such innovator is Opening Session speaker Mick Ebeling, founder of Not Impossible Labs. Ebeling’s organization launched the first 3D prosthetic printing lab, after making a robotic arm for a young Sudanese boy. The project cemented Ebeling’s passion for helping people, and he’s gone on to create prosthetic limbs for people using the technology. His organization does more than create limbs, too: virtual reality to help people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, a vibrotactile suit that allows people who are deaf to “hear” music, and more. Ebeling’s message is simple: “Innovation can come from anywhere.”

Taking the stage before Ebeling will be Lorraine M. Martin. Don’t miss this chance to hear from the new president and CEO of NSC about her passion for safety and what inspires her.

Next up, NSC will take you “beyond the buzzwords” during the Executive Forum. This keynote will provide you with “practical perspectives from leaders in EHS, business and sustainability, with insights that cut through the clichés we hear in the news.”

Jack Jackson, senior safety consultant with SafeStart, will kick off the second day of Congress & Expo with his keynote on workplace security and the three key areas organizations need to address to keep workers safe from workplace violence.

Rounding out the keynote lineup is innovation expert Jim Carroll, who will discuss mitigating safety risk in our fast-moving world. Do you have a safety management strategy that aligns to this faster evolution? Come hear Carroll’s insights, gleaned from more than 25 years in industry.

Returning to the show this year is the NSC Job and Career Center, located in Room 4 on the upper level of the convention center. Pop into the center to post open safety jobs at your organization, interview candidates, or speak with a representative from career counseling and resumé review firm Consentium Search.

Head to the Expo Floor when you’re done to check out the more than 1,000 products and services from exhibitors. While there, visit the New Product Showcase area and cast your vote in the fifth annual “Best in Show” awards.

Don’t forget to stop by Booth #4335, home to Safety+Health magazine, celebrating its 100th year! Meet members of the team and see what you’d look like on the cover of the magazine.

Congress & Expo has something for everyone. We look forward to celebrating safety with you in San Diego!
