New Orleans — Advanced Technology Services is the recipient of the 2023 Robert W. Campbell Award – a National Safety Council honor for organizations that successfully integrate environmental, health and safety management with business operations.

Representatives from ATS – a Peoria, IL-based industrial services provider – accepted the award Sunday as part of the Campbell Award Reception and Gala during the 2023 NSC Safety Congress & Expo.

Led by CEO Jeff Owens, ATS observed a 9.2% reduction in its global recordable injury rate from 2021 to 2022, according to the company. In addition, 67 of 88 ATS sites had zero recordable incidents in 2022, while 10 sites have gone at least a decade since their most recent incident.

“In working environments that are dynamic and often include nonroutine work, ATS managed risks very well,” said Katherine Mendoza, director of the Campbell Institute and senior director of workplace programs at NSC. “Their employees are armed with tools to identify hazards before each job and control those risks that are as dynamic as the job. This is evident not only in their successes over the last several years, but also in the way their employees talk about their jobs: intentional, prideful and humble.”

NSC established the award in 2004 as a tribute to Campbell, a safety pioneer who served as the council’s first president, beginning in 1913. Campbell’s leadership during NSC’s formation was instrumental in the development of organized incident prevention efforts on a national scale.
