Bresland to step down as CSB chairman
John Bresland this week announced he will step down as chairman of the Chemical Safety Board to allow President Barack Obama to choose the next chairman.
Obama recently announced he intended to nominate Rafael Moure-Eraso as the new chair and Mark A. Griffon as a board member.
Bresland said he will remain chairman until a new one is appointed and commissioned, after which he will continue to serve on the board until his five-year term ends in March 2013. He was first appointed to the board in 2002 and took over as chairman in March 2008. Under his leadership, the board conducted investigations into the dust explosion at the Imperial Sugar Port Wentworth, GA, refinery in February 2008 and the June 2009 natural gas explosion at a ConAgra Foods meat processing plant in Garner, NC, among other incidents.
