FMCSA announces changes to inspection CSA data for non-safety violations
Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recently announced changes to the way its Compliance, Safety, Accountability program’s Safety Measurement System determines non-safety-related driver violations.
A violation’s severity will now reflect whether it is safety-related, such as speeding or falsifying logs, or non-safety-related, such as not paying a parking ticket. According to an FMCSA press release, the changes will improve the agency’s ability to identify the most unsafe commercial motor vehicle carriers and increase the system's accuracy.
FMCSA announced March 27 that it would be making improvements to SMS, focusing on refining the CSA ratings system, which evaluates how well CMV carriers comply with safety regulations.
