Group calls for mandatory flu vaccination for health care workers

Washington – The National Business Group on Health is recommending mandatory flu vaccinations  for hospital workers to help protect other employees and patients.

As outlined in a position statement (.pdf file), issued Feb. 2, exceptions should be made only for employees with a medical or religious objection, and those employees should be reassigned to non-patient care or wear masks when caring for patients, the group said.

The Business Group is a nonprofit organization that represents large employers’ perspectives on national health policy issues.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 63.5 percent of health care workers received the flu vaccine last year.
