NIOSH issues nanomaterials guidance for labs

Atlanta – A new document (.pdf file) from NIOSH describes safe handling practices for engineered nanomaterials in laboratories and small-scale production plants.

NIOSH recommends implementing a comprehensive risk management program and following the concept of Prevention through Design to eliminate hazards throughout the process. Other areas addressed include personal protective equipment, ventilation, fire and explosion control, and medical surveillance.
