OIRA finishes review of OSHA's proposed walking surfaces rule
The Office of Management and Budget's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs has completed its review of a proposed OSHA standard addressing slips, trips and falls.
OIRA received the walking-working surfaces and personal fall protection systems rule Jan. 19 and completed its regulatory review April 16. The standard is intended to protect workers by making them aware of floor load limits, defective portable metal ladders and the specifics of outrigger scaffolds.
The standard was originally proposed 20 years ago, but the record was reopened in 2003 to reflect new technologies and procedures. OSHA's semiannual agenda, released last December, listed a March target date for a notice of proposed rulemaking, but nothing had been issued as of deadline.
