Online presentation aims to educate CMV drivers about fatigue

Darien, IL – The American Academy of Sleep Medicine on July 12 announced an online presentation for commercial motor vehicle drivers on the causes and consequences of driving while fatigued.

The resource identifies some of the reasons why truckers drive fatigued, such as having a non-traditional and unpredictable work schedule, and provides strategies to manage fatigue, such as planning sleep breaks during the workday and changing one’s sleep environment to help ensure higher-quality sleep.

According to the resource, driver fatigue is the cause of 16.5 percent of all roadway fatalities.

The presentation also can be viewed on YouTube.
