February 15, 2017

Watertown, SD – The National Association of Tower Erectors has updated its guidance on the safe operation of small drones near cellular, broadcast and electrical distribution towers, in addition to wireless infrastructure.

Published in January, Unmanned Aerial Systems Operations Around Vertical Communications Infrastructure, 2nd edition, incorporates updates from new guidelines and provisions associated with Federal Aviation Administration requirements under 14 CFR Part 107.

The guidance – intended for tower technicians, ground personnel, flight operators and the public – includes information on:

  • Commercial operations
  • Operational waivers
  • Flight operations
  • Safety reporting
  • Emergency procedures
  • Noise control
  • Weather
  • Hours of operation

The NATE Unmanned Aerial Systems Committee collaborated with stakeholders from the commercial drone industry to produce the document.
