BSEE to increase inspection time through ‘smarter, safer strategy’

March 28, 2018

New Orleans — A new approach that allows Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement inspectors to access electronic records onshore will increase their physical inspection time at more than 2,200 offshore oil and gas facilities in the Gulf of Mexico, the agency recently announced.

According to the agency, streamlining the inspection process with technology will reduce helicopter-operating expenses by 15 percent without compromising safety or environmental considerations on the Outer Continental Shelf.

“This approach greatly improves our inspectors’ efficiency, increasing safety oversight at OCS facilities,” BSEE Director Scott Angelle said in a March 19 press release. “Our team developed a smarter, safer strategy that provides more physical inspection time offshore and reduces government costs. This makes sense for the American taxpayer and increases our ability to ensure safe operations offshore.”
