OSHA, PHMSA announce prep meetings for UN sessions on GHS

June 4, 2019

Washington — OSHA and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration will host a public meeting on June 20 to gather information in preparation for a pair of United Nations meetings, the agencies announced in the May 22 Federal Register.

OSHA will gather information and comments ahead of the 37th session of the UN’s Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, which is scheduled to take place July 8 to July 10 in Switzerland.

The preparatory meeting’s agenda includes a review of working papers and correspondence group updates, as well as updates on the Regulatory Cooperation Council.

The goal of the PHMSA meeting is to prepare for the 55th session of the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, set for July 1 to July 5 in Switzerland. The agency is seeking input to help formulate its international agenda. PHMSA also is scheduled to update its recent actions “to enhance transparency and stakeholder interaction through improvements to the international standards portion of its website.”

The PHMSA meeting will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern, and the OSHA meeting will follow from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Department of Transportation’s Conference Center, West Building.
