NIOSH revamps ergo assessment app for miners

April 12, 2021

Washington — NIOSH has updated its mobile app designed to help mine workers assess the ergonomics of common job tasks and identify potential worksite safety hazards.

Available for download on iOS and Android devices, the revised version of ErgoMine offers multiple new features:

  • Slip, trip and fall hazard identification checklists for walkways, stairways and fixed ladders
  • Forms to identify and evaluate risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders, including evaluations for hand tools, manual tasks and ergonomic workplace improvements
  • A fix list manager to assist with tracking worksite changes

“ErgoMine 2.0 puts a powerful and easy-to-use auditing tool right where mining professionals need one – in their hands,” NIOSH’s Associate Director for Mining Jessica Kogel said in a press release. “ErgoMine is a versatile app that mine safety professionals and workers alike can use to identify and address musculoskeletal hazards at the jobsite.”
