Alcohol, drug testing rates to remain unchanged for rail workers

January 14, 2010

The minimum random drug testing rate for railroad workers will remain the same as last year, the Federal Railroad Administration announced Jan. 12.

The testing rate will remain the same because the industry's random drug testing positive rate was below 1.0 percent for the past two years, according to a notice of determination (.pdf file) published in the Jan. 12 Federal Register. Meanwhile, the minimum random alcohol testing rate will remain at 10 percent of covered railroad employees for the current calendar year.

In related news, the Federal Transit Administration announced it will host its 5th Annual Drug and Alcohol Program National Conference March 16-18 in Universal City, CA. The three-day event will include speakers from FTA, the Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
