July 15, 2010

Results from the Roadcheck 2010 nationwide highway safety compliance inspection indicate continued low out-of-service rates for commercial motor vehicle drivers, while safety belt violations increased slightly.

The Greenbelt, MD-based Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, sponsored the annual inspection and released results on July 13. Certified inspectors performed 65,327 truck and bus inspections. The inspections took place during a 72-hour blitz at 2,482 locations from June 8-10. The 26,605 vehicles that passed inspection were issued CVSA decals.

Figures show the overall vehicle compliance rate in 2010 was 80.0 percent, compared with 80.4 percent in 2009. The overall driver compliance rate remained at 95.6 percent, according to a CVSA press release.
