Interior Department names new head of safety bureau

Washington – Rear Admiral James A. Watson IV has been named the new director of the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Nov. 14.

Watson currently is the director of prevention policy for marine safety, security and stewardship at the U.S. Coast Guard, and served as the federal on-scene coordinator for the government’s response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

He is scheduled to begin at BSEE on Dec. 1, succeeding Michael R. Bromwich as head of one of two agencies that replaced the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.
