More fines for BP facilities

March 11, 2010

OSHA on March 8 announced proposed fines of more than $3 million to the BP-Husky refinery in Oregon, OH, for alleged violations including failure to provide adequate pressure relief for process units.

OSHA began inspecting the facility in September 2009 as part of its Petroleum Refinery Process Safety Management National Emphasis Program and as a follow-up to a 2007 settlement agreement, according to an OSHA press release. Although BP complied with the agreement, inspectors found other violations.

BP Products North America is facing a record-breaking proposed penalty of $87 million for alleged violations at its Texas City refinery. BP is contesting those citations.
