February 1, 2011

Washington – Improving transportation safety will require a new perspective on safety culture, recordkeeping and aging infrastructure, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah Hersman said Jan. 26.

Speaking at a Transportation Research Board conference in Washington, Hersman urged attendees to embrace lessons learned from past NTSB investigations. She also stressed the need to improve child occupant protection, an issue that has been on NTSB’s “Most Wanted List” of transportation safety improvements since 1997.
