OMB receives proposed rule for EOBRs, HOS

December 2, 2010

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration submitted its proposed rule on electronic onboard recorders and hours-of-service supporting documents to the Office of Management and Budget on Monday.

OMB will review the rule, which would consider follow-on revisions to RIN 2126-AA89 to incorporate new performance standards for EOBRs installed in commercial motor vehicles manufactured on or after June 4, 2012. Onboard HOS recording devices meeting FMCSA's current requirements and installed in CMVs manufactured before June 4, 2012, may be used for the remainder of the service life of those CMVs.

In the new EOBR initiative, FMCSA also wants to address the HOS supporting document requirements.

According to the Department of Transportation's semiannual agenda, a notice of proposed rulemaking is expected to be published in December.
