OSHA issues safety recommendations for late-night retail workers

January 28, 2010

OSHA recently updated its guidance document (.pdf file) on how to protect late-night retail workers from violence.

In 2007, 167 retail workers were killed, a significant decline from 10 years ago when 286 workers were killed in 1998, according to OSHA. Almost half of the victims worked in late-night establishments such as gasoline stations and convenience stores.

The updated guidance addresses risk factors and solutions, policy recommendations, and practical corrective methods to prevent and reduce the effects of workplace violence in late-night retail establishments.
