Report estimates cost of construction injuries, fatalities in California

December 5, 2012

Washington – Construction-related injuries and fatalities cost the state of California $2.9 billion from 2008 to 2010, according to a new report from advocacy group Public Citizen.

California screens construction companies bidding for state contracts to ensure they meet performance standards and have not violated safety laws. However, the report asserted that the state should require companies to prove they provide safety training to workers and do not have any serious safety violations.

The report is part of a series from Public Citizen. Similar conclusions have been drawn about construction-related injuries in Maryland and Washington.
