Report offers insight into link between medical claims and rising workers' comp costs

October 12, 2011

Cambridge, MA – A recently released report from the Workers Compensation Research Institute offers new insight into the types of medical claims that raise workers’ compensation costs. The third edition of the institute’s Medical Price Index for Workers’ Compensation (.pdf file) report compares medical services and cost data among states.

Researchers tracked data from 25 states on non-hospital and non-facility medical services provided for injured workers medical claims. Medical prices from 2002 to June 2010, as well as from January 2010 to June 2010, were compared over time in the longitudinal portion of the study.

Researchers said they hope the report will allow key decision-makers to determine whether their state’s workers’ comp costs are rising slower or faster than the average.
