Kline announces House subcommittee leader

Washington – Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the House Education and the Workforce Committee chair, selected newly elected Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) to chair the committee’s Workforce Protections Subcommittee.

Walberg previously served on the Education and the Workforce Committee during the 110th Congress, but lost his seat in the 2009 election before winning it back this past November.

In addition to announcing Walberg’s new position on the committee, Kline on Dec. 22 also named the Republican members of his committee for the 112th Congress – about half of whom have previously served on the committee. Because Republicans won a majority of seats in the House in the November election, they gain chairmanships of that chamber’s committees and subcommittees.

On Dec. 16, Rep. George Miller (D-CA) was selected by House Democrats to be the ranking member on the committee, which Miller chaired for two terms when his party controlled the chamber.
