Washington – OSHA had an “incredibly successful” year in 2011 and will build on its past accomplishments this year, agency administrator David Michaels told staff last month.
Calling last year “challenging” but “successful,” Michaels applauded OSHA staff accomplishments, which included conducting thousands of inspections and removing workers from hazards as well as responding to more than 233,000 email and telephone questions from the public.
To make 2012 “even better,” Michaels said the agency aims to:
- Continue and expand its heat stress campaign
- Partner with NIOSH and other organizations to launch a campaign to prevent fatal falls in construction, an extension of outreach efforts previously conducted regarding residential construction fall protection requirements
- Launch a National Emphasis Program on isocyanate exposure
- Conduct a campaign with the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division to help protect young workers from grain bin hazards
