Arlington, VA – The Mine Safety and Health Administration on Feb. 8 announced a new office as part of a reorganization intended to centralize enforcement and accountability functions.
The new Office of Assessments, Accountability, Special Enforcement and Investigations will manage and coordinate routine and special assessments, as well as accountability functions and special enforcement strategies, according to an MSHA press release. That includes tasks such as citing flagrant violations, investigating retaliation complaints and possible criminal violations, and running the” pattern of violations” program.
MSHA also plans to create a deputy director position for investigations, special enforcement and accountability, as well as establish a special enforcement and analysis branch within the new office.
