NIOSH creates driving safety center

Washington – NIOSH in February launched a virtual resource center for vehicle safety research.

Hosted by the NIOSH Division of Safety Research in Morgantown, WV, the NIOSH Center for Motor Vehicle Safety will focus on research to prevent motor vehicle injuries and fatalities. To start, the center will review the agency’s current research program; identify research gaps; and consider potential risk factors for crashes and interventions based on technology, organizational and policy change, and worker education and training, according to a NIOSH press release.

Planned research topics include crash-risk factors for truck drivers, firefighters and emergency responders, as well as fleet safety and global road safety.
