Salem, OR — The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences has released an online training course for workers in the logging industry.
The free Oregon Yarding and Loading Safety Training includes industry-relevant examples based on real-world safety issues; self-paced learning modules; short, micro-learning modules; and downloadable resources for on-the-job use.
Between 2018 and 2023, 53 logging industry workers in Oregon died on the job, OIOHS says.
The training covers:
- Common hazards
- Various logging crew jobs
- Types of yarding systems
- Recommendations for rigging the yarding lines
- Types of elevated supports
- Basic work procedures of a rigging crew
The training, available in English and Spanish, was adapted from Chapters 6 and 7 of Oregon OSHA’s Yarding and Loading Handbook.
