Pipeline safety agency schedules forum on emergency responder safety

Washington – The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration announced that it will host an Emergency Responder Forum in Washington on Nov. 15. PHMSA said it intends to develop an action plan that will improve emergency responders’ ability to prepare for and respond to pipeline emergencies.

Several recent pipeline incidents have revealed that firefighters and emergency responders do not have the information they need to respond to natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline emergencies, according to a statement from the Department of Transportation.

In the coming weeks, PHMSA plans to release more information about the forum on its Pipeline Safety Awareness website.
