Solis: Ensuring labor rights is everyone’s responsibility

Washington – It is everyone’s responsibility to promote workplace safety, especially for “vulnerable” workers, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis said recently. In a video marking Labor Rights Week (Aug. 27-31), Solis stressed the need to protect workers who might be the subject of abuse due to language barriers or immigration status.

“We all have an important role to play, especially on behalf of these workers,” she said. “Together, we are committed to ensure workers are safe on the job and paid what they’re owed by law.”

Highlighting the partnerships the Department of Labor has formed with more than 150 consulates across the country, Solis encouraged "vulnerable" workers to contact their consulate or DOL to address any concerns.
