Sanitation worker protection bill advances in Wisconsin

Madison, WI – Legislation intended to help protect Wisconsin sanitation workers from reckless drivers passed the state Senate May 7.

S.B. 145 would double penalties for drivers who speed or drive recklessly near locations where sanitation workers are at risk from traffic. A state Assembly companion bill (A.B. 159) passed in a voice vote the same day.

Differences between the two bills must be resolved before the legislation moves to the governor’s desk.
