Survey requests truck drivers’ feedback on parking availability

Fultonham, NY – The widow of a New York-based truck driver killed in 2009 is requesting truck driver participation in a survey on truck parking availability on or near interstates.

Hope Rivenburg maintains a website about Jason Rivenburg, who was killed at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina after he was unable to find appropriate parking at his delivery site. His death inspired Jason’s Law (.pdf file), which aims to increase truck parking availability along highways in the United States. The legislation was enacted as a provision in the surface transportation funding bill known as MAP-21 (.pdf file).

According to the survey, results will be shared with the Department of Transportation, which must decide where to allocate the law’s funding. Results also will be discussed Oct. 12 in a presentation at the 2013 Truck Driver Social Media Convention in Kansas City, MO.
