Olympia, WA — A Washington state law slated to go into effect Jan. 1 requires nurses and other health care professionals at larger hospitals to receive uninterrupted meal and rest breaks.

Washington — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is seeking public comment on a commercial bus industry group’s preemption request concerning California’s meal and rest break rules for commercial drivers.

Indianapolis — An Indiana law scheduled to go into effect July 1 raises the maximum monetary penalty for on-the-job fatalities.

Carson City, NV — Bipartisan legislation introduced in the Nevada State Assembly would require employers who operate medical facilities to create and implement workplace violence prevention programs and report incidents.

Indianapolis — Indiana Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) has introduced state legislation that would create a public safety research fund aimed at understanding and improving the physical health and safety and psychological well-being of first responders.

Lansing, MI — Michigan has become the first state to lower permissible blood lead levels – by as much as half – to protect workers, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently announced.
