Unsafe trucks and buses taken off the road after brake inspection blitz

Greenbelt, MD — Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspectors placed 574 of the 4,021 trucks and buses they examined out of service for brake-related violations during an April 14 unannounced safety event.

Vehicles were checked throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Violations included worn or broken brake drums and rotors, worn hoses/tubing, inoperative parking/emergency brake, and inoperative low-air warning device.

The event was part of CVSA’s Operation Airbrake, conducted in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, and Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transportation and National Guard.
