This session will deliver a data-driven look at substance use trends and the evolving role of drug testing in workplace health and safety. Attendees will learn how rising positivity rates affect workforce risk, explore emerging tools such as oral fluid testing and digital solutions, and understand how drug testing can serve as a proactive health intervention rather than a punitive measure.
The drug testing industry is at a critical inflection point. Workforce shortages, changing substance use patterns and new federal regulations demand a shift from traditional punitive models to approaches that prioritize safety, compliance and recovery. Understanding current trends and innovative testing approaches – such as oral fluid testing and digitally enabled solutions – equips employers, program administrators and service providers to make informed decisions that protect both employees and organizational performance.
