Washington – The White House has designated May 23-27 as Extreme Heat Week in an effort to inform the public – including employers and workers – about how to prepare for extreme heat events.
As part of the initiative, an OSHA representative will participate in a White House-hosted webinar on May 26 aimed at educating employers and supervisors about how to protect workers from heat illness. The representative will discuss the importance of providing workers with water, rest breaks and shade.
Registration for the webinar is available online. Additionally, OSHA offers a variety of resources to help educate workers about heat illness, including a mobile app.
Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows 2,630 workers suffered from heat illness in 2014 in the United States. Eighteen workers died from heat stroke or related causes.
