NIOSH webinar to discuss aging workforce

Washington – The next webinar in NIOSH’s Total Worker Health series will provide an “overview of theory, research data, obstacles and potential solutions for addressing the challenges and opportunities posed by an aging workforce.”

Slated to take place on Sept. 27, Productive Aging and Work: Theory, Health Data, & Practical Solutions is intended for professionals in the fields of occupational safety and health, risk management, human resources, health education, medicine, and nursing. Among the topics to be discussed:

  • A productive aging model emphasizing a comprehensive prevention strategy
  • Recent data from older workers on workforce planning and management
  • An education program designed to create workplaces and policies that support workers throughout life

Scheduled speakers include NIOSH Director John Howard; James Grosch, research psychologist and co-director of NIOSH’s Center for Productive Aging and Work; Dr. Xiuwen Sue Dong, data center director for the Center for Construction Research and Training; and Steven Hecker, emeritus faculty member at the University of Washington School of Public Health and the University of Oregon Labor Education and Research Center.
