NTSB releases tip card on fatigued driving in commercial bus industry

Washington — The National Transportation Safety Board has released a safety tip card aimed at reducing fatigue among commercial bus drivers.

The card – designed to be stored above a driver’s visor – highlights issues of fatigue in transportation and its effects, as well as lessons learned from crash investigations. It offers tips for both drivers and bus company operators.

In 2016, 246 people were killed in 224 large-bus crashes, the card states, citing Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration statistics. Large buses can carry nine or more passengers and include school and transit buses, motorcoaches and van-based vehicles.
