Washington — OSHA and the Food and Drug Administration have teamed up to develop a checklist intended to help food manufacturers protect worker health and practice food safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Announced in an Aug. 19 press release from the Department of Labor, the checklist includes a section on employee testing for COVID-19 and investigating potential work-related exposures. Other sections focus on worker health, including proper physical distancing and work environment configuration.
Additionally, the checklist covers basic sanitation and food safety practices, along with considerations for suppliers and incoming ingredients.
“Food manufacturers can use this checklist in conjunction with other sector-specific information, such as guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and OSHA for agriculture and meat and poultry processing workers and employers,” DOL states in the release.
