Greenbelt, MD — From Sept. 9 to 11, inspectors across North America checked braking systems, lights, tires and other commercial motor vehicle equipment during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 33rd annual International Roadcheck.
More than 13,000 inspectors participated in the 72-hour enforcement and safety outreach event, conducting 50,151 examinations and placing 20.9% of vehicles and 5.1% of drivers out of service.
The citations issued included:
- 1,586 cargo securement violations
- 1,650 lights violations
- 4,730 brake adjustment and brake systems violations
Out of the 26,451 North American Standard Level I inspections conducted, 22.2% resulted in out-of-service violations.
Responding to industry concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, CVSA postponed the 2020 event to September from May. The next International Roadcheck is set for May 4-6.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration participates in the International Roadcheck program, along with the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada, and the Ministry of Communications and Transportation of Mexico.
