Young worker safety coalition hosts video, graphic design contest

Salem, OR — High school students in Oregon are being encouraged to use their creative skills to help young workers across the state stay healthy and safe.

The Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition, known as O[yes], is conducting a media contest. Students are invited to produce a 30- to 90-second video or graphic design project to help raise awareness of health and safety among young workers.

All entries should include the tagline, “Work. It can be done more dangerous than you think.” and should focus on one of two themes:

- Digital Partners -
  • Struck by or pushed against an object
  • Slips, trips and falls on walking surfaces

Examples include being struck by a cart, hitting your hand with a hammer, tripping on a cord while carrying boxes and falling on a slippery surface.

Entries should encourage and inspire young workers to think twice about their health and safety, but shouldn’t depict unsafe behaviors or show participants not following COVID-19 guidance.

First place in each category will earn a $500 prize. Second place wins $400 and third place gets $300. The school, organization or club of each first-place winner will receive a matching prize. Entries are due at 5 p.m. on Feb. 19 and can be submitted at YoungEmployeeSafety.org/contest.
