Firefighter Safety Stand Down set for June

Quincy, MA — Fire departments nationwide are being asked to pause all nonemergency activities during the 2024 Firefighter Safety Stand Down to focus on safety and health education.

The annual event – set for June 16-22 – will emphasize the importance of a solid, foundational training program with the theme “Fire Training: Back to Basics.” Each day will have a focus area: building the foundation of a training program, assessing the needs of the community and department, safety during training, physical and mental health considerations, and the “10 commandments” of firefighter training.

Dozens of free resources, including articles, textbooks, on-demand webinars, toolkits and online courses, are available at SafetyStandDown.org/resources.

The National Fire Protection Association will again host an online safety quiz to help reinforce the message behind this year’s theme. All participants will be entered into a sweepstakes drawing for one of 200 limited edition Safety Stand Down challenge coins.

The event is a joint initiative of NFPA; the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ Safety, Health and Survival Section; the National Volunteer Fire Council; and the Fire Department Safety Officers Association.
