FRA introduces rail safety data website

Washington — A new public data portal from the Federal Railroad Administration features rail safety information, reports and data sets.

Visitors to the website can find reports on railroad incidents, casualties and highway-rail grade crossing incidents. Other features include:

  • Overview reports
  • Reports on trespassers and suicides
  • Reports on quiet zones
  • Operational data

All data compiled through April 30 is available.

It also includes a link to the Grade Crossing Accident Prediction System, which replaces the Web Based Accident Prediction System.

Another section allows visitors to generate PDF safety forms, including Forms 54a (rail equipment accident/incident data), 55a (injury/illness summary – casualty data), 57 (highway-rail grade crossing incident data) and 71 (crossing inventory data – current and historical).
