‘Lighter, brighter and smarter’

In some work environments, a flashlight “is just as critical as gloves or eye protection,” says Jonathan Gordon, marketing manager, fire and industrial at Nightstick.

Similar to other products designed to protect workers, “not all lights are built the same,” he said. “Beam pattern, run time, durability, waterproofing, safety certifications and hands-free use all affect performance. A generic light can slow the job down or increase risk.

“The right light helps workers move faster, stay safer and make better decisions, especially in low-visibility or high-pressure situations.”

To meet the demands of workplace lighting, manufacturers are making it “lighter, brighter and smarter,” Gordon noted.

What does that mean, exactly?

“High-efficiency LEDs now deliver more lumens with less weight, and improved beam designs increase candela to extend throw distance without reducing total output,” Gordon said. “Lithium-ion batteries last longer and recharge faster. USB-C is quickly becoming the standard, allowing users to charge with the same cable they use for other devices.”

All these enhancements are created to protect workers, even though “too often, lights are treated as afterthoughts rather than tools,” Gordon said.
He added, “These are not extras. They are essential tools for safe and productive work in demanding environments.” Because “it’s not just about having a light. It’s about having the right light for the job.”
