Washington — OSHA has issued several corrections to address “minor errors” in its Hazard Communication Standard for general industry (1910.1200).
A Jan. 8 notice from the agency states that most of the errors relate to the Hazcom final rule published on May 20, 2024. Under the rule, the standard was updated to link its regulations to the seventh revision of the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.
OSHA first provided notification of the corrections and technical amendments in October to fix “errors in that final rule which the agency believed could lead to confusion during the classification process or errors on labels and Safety Data Sheets if not expeditiously corrected.”
The agency’s previous Hazcom update, published in 2012, was the first to align with GHS; that final rule incorporated the third revision.
The UN’s GHS is currently on its 11th revision, which was issued Dec. 9.
