Washington – The Chemical Safety Board has scheduled a meeting to consider whether OSHA’s responses to some of the board’s recommendations have been “unacceptable,” and to launch its Most Wanted Chemical Safety Improvements Program.
During the all-day July 25 public meeting in Washington, board members are scheduled to discuss and vote on whether to designate seven regulatory recommendations to OSHA as “Open – Unacceptable Response.”
Four of the recommendations call on OSHA to issue a comprehensive combustible dust standard for the general industry. Board members also plan to consider whether to designate a combustible dust standard as CSB’s first “most wanted” improvement.
CSB is an independent agency that investigates industrial chemical incidents, and its recommendations are not binding. The National Transportation Safety Board, another independent agency that investigates incidents and makes recommendations, has issued an annual “most wanted” list since 1990.
